ARMATEX® SF 8 is a silicone-coated fiberglass fabric designed for flame and abrasion resistance in thermal barrier applications. It has a nominal thickness of 0.008 inches and weighs 8 ounces per square yard (271 g/m²). The base fabric withstands temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C), while the silicone coating is rated for continuous use up to 450°F (232°C) with transient exposure to 600°F (315°C). The fabric is available in widths of 38 or 60 inches (0.965 or 1.524 meters) and comes in standard 50-yard rolls (45.72 meters). It is not suitable for outdoor use. The coated fabric meets ASTM E84.84a and ASTM E162 standards, and the base fabric can be certified to MIL-I-24244 and MIL-Y-1140.
Mid-Mountain manufactures silicone coated fabrics and tapes comprised of varying substrates coated with silicone rubber compounds. With a continuous use limit of 450°F • 232°C, ARMATEX® Silicone Coated Fabrics and Textiles are engineered for use in environments that require high heat or flame resistance, chemical resistance, or abrasion resistance.
Typical uses include removable pad insulation, protection from weld spatter and slag, gaskets, and thermal insulation barriers.
