The AMC Adapter, a first of its kind in the industry, is helping to change the Telecom ecosystem by allowing Telecom equipment vendors access to Commercial-Off-The-S helf (COTS) hardware outside of the Telecom form factor. AMC Adapter provides universal approach for maximum flexibility Telecommunication equipment vendors are rapidly transitioning to offering PCI Express technology as the fabric on carrier backplanes. This interconnect technology is becoming ubiquitous resulting in increasingly cheaper and higher performing solutions with it. Magma’s AMC Adaptor is the ultimate enabler for integrating I/O sub-systems comprising COTS hardware built around PCI and PCI Express technologies to ATCA equipment. AMC Adaptor with MicroTCA® platform AMC Adaptor provides a new paradigm for connectivity to MicroTCA® systems and by extension to ATCA shelf equipment. This method uses the AMC module as an enabler for connection to expansion chassis that provide slots for PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express. This then functions as the I/O sub-system constituting of various I/O cards in them. These expansion chassis are all rack-mountable with their own power supply and cooling resources. Many of them have space and power resources for multiple hard drives to be installed within the chassis as well. These come in various form factors ranging from 1U to 4U. The AMC Adapter in the ATCA Blade space The AMC Adaptor can be configured to allow for communications between two or more MicroTCA® chassis using PCI Express as the communication technology. This mode of communication supports data rates of up to 2GB/sec in transmit and receive direction simultaneously. This method is used to transform the MicroTCA® to I/O sub-systems for ATCA Blade servers
