Anti-Synaptophysin is useful in the detection of normal neuroendocrine cells and neuroendocrine neoplasms. Reactive neoplasms of neural type include neuroblastomas, ganglio neuroblastomas, ganglio neuromas, pheochromocytomas, chromaffin and nonchromaffin paragangliomas. The antibody also labels neuroendocrine neoplasms of epithelialtype including: pituitary adenomas, islet cell neoplasms, medullary thyroid carcinomas, parathyroid adenomas, carcinoids of the bronchopulmonary and gastrointestinal tracts, neuroendocrine carcinomas of the bronchopulmonary and gastrointestinal tracts, and neuroendocrine carcinomas of the skin.
