p27 is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor which regulates progression from G1 to Sphase by binding and inhibitng cyclin-dependent kinases. Low p27 expression has been associated with unfavorable prognosis in renal cell carcinoma, colon carcinoma, small breast carcinoma, non-small cell lung carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, multiple myeloma, lymph node metastases in papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, and more aggressive phenotype in a carcinoma of the cervix.
