ESDU 78032 provides a method for estimating the grease life in rolling bearings for determining the relubrication interval, the grease renewal period, or the life of "sealed for life" bearings. The factors affecting the grease life are discussed and guidance is given on the correct packing, repacking and regreasing of bearings. Charts and formulae enable the grease life to be estimated taking into account the type and size of the bearing, its speed and load, its temperature of operation, the degree of vibration or shock present, and the type of grease. Two examples illustrate the use of the method for particular applications.
