IHS ESDU Effect of an axial compressive mean stress on the fatigue strength of aluminium alloy bar (plain and notched). 74038

ESDU 74038 gives stress versus endurance curves for naturally-aged and for artificially-aged alloys, each with or without notches (four different stress raisers in the second case). They were obtained from an analysis of some 250 fatigue test results from the literature. From the curves, a compressive mean stress versus alternating stress diagram was also constructed, for each of the two alloy groups, to which a tensile mean stress side was added. Details of the specimens and of the material specifications are included.
