IHS ESDU Frictional and retarding forces on aircraft tyres. Part III: planing. 72008

Description
ESDU 72008 is the third of a series dealing with the frictional and retarding forces on aircraft-type tyres and considers the various aspects of aquaplaning. The objects of this part are threefold: (i) to describe the observable characteristics of planing and the mechanisms that produce it; (ii) to present the available data relating to planing of aircraft-type tyres; (iii) to indicate the uses of these data for the prediction and analysis of planing. ESDU 72008 also contains an extensive worked example which examines the influence of tyre-runway friction and brake torque on the spin-down and spin-up characteristics during both braked and unbraked operations.
