ESDU 72006 presents tabular data for 22 n-alkanoic acids and 3 isoalkanoic acids. The names given in the Tables are those recommended by the BSI. Synonyms in general use are given. The Tables also give the molecular weights and the empirical and structural formulae. Experimental values of normal melting and normal boiling points are available for most of the compounds considered but only a few determinations of the critical temperatures and critical pressures have been made. The method of correlating these data and estimating the values given in the Tables is outlined. For some compounds the normal boiling point and/or critical temperature so derived may be above the decomposition temperature but such values are sometimes necessary for calculating the properties of solutions. Three recommended methods are referred to that may be used to estimate boiling points at any particular pressure and that require data from ESDU 72006 only.
