ESDU 08007 provides a method to calculate the minimum load to cause either failure by rupture or maximum permissible deformation of parallel-sided and tapered lugs with round or square ends under in-plane oblique loading at an angle to the lug axial direction. The method applied to any ductile metallic materials; lugs fabricated from brittle materials are not covered by the Item. Values of elastic stress concentration factor are given in ESDU 81006. A complete lug strength analysis calculation is included. Information on the analysis of lugs under axial and transverse loads is provided in ESDU 91008 and ESDU 06021 respectively and those Items have been used in the example section of this Item.
