Description
Most versatile and widely applied dryers
Used to dry food, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals
Materials vary in density and viscosity such as dilute solutions, heavy liquids, or pasty materials
Effective for heavy sludges that become saturated and deposit salts
Products sensitive to high temperatures can be dried successfully because exposure to temperatures above the boiling point is restricted to just a few seconds
Movable drum permits complete control of product film thickness
Feed may be accomplished via perforated tube trough, pendulum, or specially engineered devices
Can be equipped with externally controlled full or partial enclosures to protect personnel when drying toxic, dusty, or flammable products
Solvents can be reclaimed by connecting vapor outlet to a condenser
Recovery or elimination of dust from vapor can be accomplished by adding a scrubber
Mechanical support skids are available for double drum dryers
Features
Equipped with two (2) accurately fabricated, steam-heated drums that rotate downward toward the nip or pinch of the rolls. Drums may be manufactured from steel, cast iron or stainless steel
Wet feed is introduced to nip by various methods including perforated pipe, pendulum feed or mechanical trolley
Reservoir of fluid is formed between drums and contained within endboards fitted against end faces of drums
Wet feed level may be varied as required
Liquid is heated to boiling point and partially concentrated by hot drum surfaces
Feed is deposited as film on both drums
Benefits
Drying takes place within a single revolution of the drums
Dried material is removed by adjustable knives
One drum is movable to enable thickness of product film to be controlled
Thickness of film can be modified to produce product ranging from flakes to powder
