The ECS-119.8-S-4X is a through-hole quartz crystal operating at 11.98135 MHz, designed for stable frequency generation in electronic circuits. It features a low-profile HC-49USX package with a 3.5 mm lead spacing and 3rd overtone mode of oscillation. The crystal has a load capacitance of series, a maximum drive level of 500 μW, and operates within a temperature range of -10°C to +70°C. Frequency stability is ±30 ppm over this range, with a frequency tolerance of ±30 ppm at +25°C. It meets RoHS compliance, has an aging rate of ±5 ppm in the first year, and is rated for storage from -55°C to +125°C. The part is MSL 1 with a Sn/Cu matte lead finish and supports a maximum solder peak temperature of +260°C for up to 10 seconds across two cycles.
Despite the rise in popularity of surface mount technology (SMT) in passive components, through hole packaging has remained an industry staple for eight decades for a reason. The simplicity and efficacy of this technology, along with its ability to be incorporated into a vast array of designs, make it an excellent choice for many different applications.
Crystals with through hole packing are ideal for larger components that will undergo a significant amount of mechanical stress, high voltage, and/or high power. This is because through hole soldering results in a stronger bond between the passive components and the circuit board.
