Bombardier, Inc. Locomotives ALP

Description
In the US and in Canada, BOMBARDIER ALP platform locomotives are in successful operation in passenger traffic. The first series of the ALP platform, the ALP-46 has been in operation for NJ Transit since 1996. In 2008, the largest provider of public transportation placed a new order for 36 ALP-46A electric locomotives. Compared to the ALP-46, many technical systems have been refined – including an increase in speed: the ALP-46A can travel at 201 km/h. The ALP-45 Dual Powered locomotive is the latest member of the ALP platform. It can operate both as an electric locomotive under catenary as well as a diesel-electric locomotive on non-electrified routes. The dual-powered locomotive is designed for high-capacity passenger trains consisting of single or double-deck coaches. The locomotive’s maximum speed when diesel-powered is 160 km/h, whereas electrically powered it can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
