Ideal for abrasive environments, Zeus’ drawn fibers maintain exceptional performance under high levels of mechanical stress, extreme temperatures, and aggressive chemical exposure. These lightweight fibers also offer high tensile strength, abrasion resistance, optical clarity and superior lubricity. Zeus drawn fiber is found in everything from conveyer belts to catheter componentry. Our drawn fibers can be used to create a braided sleeve – or over-braid – that is both expandable and flexible for aerospace, automotive, and medical markets. The woven braiding is then placed over existing wire assemblies to guard against chaffing and provide additional chemical and wear resistance. Due to the chemical resistance of Zeus fibers, these materials can be woven into meshes to make filters for aggressive chemical environments and as a mist eliminator to filter moisture out of vapors. The utilization of nonmetallic materials is a growing trend for medical devices. Drawn fiber used as a braiding component in guide catheters improves MRI compatibility. With high tensile strength and flexibility, Zeus fibers provide medical device manufacturers a polymer alternative for procedures that preclude the use of metals. The introduction of drawn fiber provides additional flexibility at the distal tip of steerable and deflectable guide catheters. Capabilities Zeus is currently capable of extruding fibers in sizes ranging from 0.002′ (0.051 mm) to 0.040" (1.016 mm). Applications Braided Cord / Twine – Used in the petroleum industry, drawn fiber can be braided into cords or twines of various patterns and used as lacing cords to keep wiring securely tied inside of submersible pumps. Braided Sleeving – Commonly braided into a sleeving, Zeus drawn fiber is used over wires allowing them to be organized and protected. Our drawn fiber sleeving provides added abrasion, heat, and chemical resistance particularly in cramped spaces such as engine compartments while keeping wire bundles safely away from moving equipment. Fiber braided directly over wire bundles can make custom wire harnesses. Brushes – For both medical and industrial applications, drawn fiber is used as brush bristles. Because of their outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance, Zeus fiber ensures brushes will have a long life even in the most hostile environments. Catheter Braiding / Coiling – PEEK Drawn Fibers provide unique biocompatible catheter braiding and coiling solutions where improved flexibility is required. Using PEEK with stainless steel improves flexibility while maintaining a high degree of torquability. Where metal cannot be used, PEEK can be used alone in applications such as MRI to provide a completely nonmetallic shaft. By using different geometries such as rectangular profiles (0.001′ × 0.003′; 0.0254 mm × 0.0762 mm), the braided outside diameter (OD) is minimized so that it will maintain desired profiles. Zeus can extrude drawn fiber with multiple resins – including nylon – into flat, round, rectangular, and more profiles for medical applications upon request. Conveyor Systems – Sometimes referred to as suction tape, Zeus Drawn Fiber can be woven into ribbons to form conveyor belts for the pulp paper and food processing industries. These belts can be thermo-formed into spirals and "locked" together with a straight length of monofilament known as a pintle pin. Fiber is integral in forming the joint that holds the two ribbon ends together forming an endless belt. Hydraulic Hose Over-Braid – Our Drawn Fiber braided directly over the outside diameter of hydraulic hoses provides an extra layer of abrasion and chemical resistance and improves burst pressure. Strings – Drawn Fiber can be used for both instrument strings and racket strings. Zeus materials can withstand the mechanical stresses caused by use in such applications. We will customize the physical properties of the fiber in order to give them the responsiveness and "feel" desired by both athletes and musicians.
