Connecting the RS485 link
• If the PC is not equipped with a serial port, the USB / RS485 interface can be connected via a USB port to obtain an RS485 communication port.Recommended for local
use and not for permanent installation.
• RS422 / RS 485 repeater is recommended for local, non-permanent use. In some applications the maximum distance and/or the maximum number of devices can be exceeded. One solution to this technical restriction is to install an interface which amplifies the signal over a further 1200 m (at 9600 bauds) for 31 devices. In addition, it allows you to create a new branch on the network thereby making it possible to reduce the length of cable required to connect the devices by avoiding back and forth cabling.
Using the telephone network
• On some sites, it is impossible to connect all the DIRIS’s using a single cable. Indeed, the distances may be such that the investment would be too costly. In this case, a modemmay be used. The RTC / RS485 modem can be configured as a master (RS232: connected directly to PC) or slave (RS485: connected to slave devices, via network).
Using the Ethernet network
• The Ethernet interface enables RS485 slave devices to be connected to an Ethernet network. These interfaces can be configured differently to suit other architectures.
