MacroTrap® Guard Bed Media Protects Your Catalyst Saint-Gobain NorPro develops and manufactures the widest range of catalyst carriers, ceramic bed supports and guard bed media in the world. Saint-Gobain NorPro's MacroTrap® guard bed media protects your precious catalyst investment by providing an effective barrier against fouling to keep your reactor up and running. Particulates present in the feed can settle in the heart of the refinery -- the catalyst bed. Without a barrier to protect it, the catalyst bed can become plugged after as little as three months in operation. Pressure drop increases and reactor performance declines...requiring the refiner to shut down the vital unit while the fouled catalyst is replaced. Some plants install process filters to protect their catalyst beds. However, filters are ineffective in removing iron sulfide gums and particulates less than 20 micron. MacroTrap guard bed media are highly macroporous ceramic materials, which work by trapping particulates and some soluble iron in the very large pores before they reach the catalyst bed.
