The MDSU can be provided in either a conduction cooled ATR or air cooled convection chassis. It has provisions for three SBCs, one dedicated RAID controller and twenty-four SATA 2.5 inch solid state drives (SSD). By using 128 Gigabyte drives the MDSU provides a total of 3.1 Terabytes of user storage and has a capacity of over 6.0 Terabytes once MIL-SPEC 256 Gigabyte SSDs become available in the summer of 2009. The main objective of this product line is to surpass 16 Terabytes of data storage while maintaining its dense compact size. Data to and from the SSD is accommodated through four Gigabit (GbE) ports or up to 24 GbE ports via a Gigabit Ethernet Fabric Switch. The MDSU is controlled by a Core 2 Duo Pentium Processor with four Gigabytes of SDRAM through the CPCI bus. The MDSU works on the ground in rugged mobile environments and in the thin air altitudes of airborne applications.
