The NCP1378P is a PWM current-mode controller designed for free-running quasi-resonant operation, suitable for low voltage applications. It features a true current mode modulator and a demagnetization detector, ensuring operation in borderline or critical conduction mode under various load and line conditions. The controller includes an internal 8.0 ms timer to limit the free-running frequency to a maximum of 100 kHz, which helps meet EMI requirements. Key protective features include latched overvoltage protection (OVP) and auto-recovery short-circuit protection, which disables output pulses during overcurrent conditions. The device also incorporates a 1.0 ms soft-start function to minimize startup stress. With a peak current source/sink capability of 500 mA, the NCP1378P is designed for battery-based operations and includes adjustable skip cycle capability for efficient power management. The device is available in both SOIC-8 and PDIP-7 packages, and it is Pb-free.
