The DS2165Q is an ADPCM processor chip designed for efficient speech compression and expansion, capable of handling 64kbps PCM voice data and compressing it to 32kbps, 24kbps, or 16kbps. It features a dual-channel architecture that allows for independent operation, enabling configurations for two expansions, two compressions, or one of each. The device supports direct interconnection with combo-codec devices, ensuring low input-to-output delay of less than 375 microseconds. This DSP chip operates with a master clock of 10MHz and can process PCM/ADPCM data at rates ranging from 256kHz to 4.096MHz. It includes a simple serial port for configuration, allowing dynamic adjustments to compression algorithms on-the-fly. The DS2165Q can function in hardware mode without a host processor, making it suitable for voice storage applications. It operates on a single +5V supply and is available in a 28-pin PLCC package. A 3V version, designated DS2165QL, is also available.
