The DS1553P-100 is a real-time clock (RTC) and nonvolatile static RAM (NV SRAM) integrated circuit designed for timekeeping applications. It features a built-in lithium energy source, ensuring operation for over 10 years without power. The device is year-2000 compliant and includes a programmable watchdog timer, RTC alarm, and power-on reset functionality. The RTC registers provide BCD-coded time and date information, with automatic leap year compensation valid until the year 2100. The DS1553P-100 supports a byte-wide interface for accessing clock registers, which are resident in the top 16 RAM locations. It also includes a battery voltage level indicator and power-fail write protection, allowing for a ±10% power supply tolerance. The device is available in a 34-pin PowerCap package, which requires a separate PowerCap module for the crystal and battery, facilitating easier assembly and preventing damage during soldering.
