RFID, Inc. R³ Serial Reader Model 7051E

Description
Used by itself as a simple Serial peripheral, this Reader outputs standard RS232 or RS485. With an externally cabled Antenna, the Model 7000E can attain 25% to 50% more read range than our Smart Antennas. Advantage to the Model 7000E Reader versus Smart Antennas is the increased read range, see below chart. Disadvantage is lack of Tag speed, networking, minimum Antenna spacing requirements (due to interference) between Antennas and lack of industrial communication protocols. Smart Antennas overcome these disadvantages, at the loss of read range. Why? The entire Antenna housing for the Model 7000E contains a coil, whereas with Smart Antennas the Reader circuitry is integrated into the Antenna package, minimizing space for the Antenna coil.
