The ISL81483IP is a half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver designed for low power and high-speed communication. It operates on a single +5V supply with a tolerance range of 4.5V to 5.5V, allowing for flexibility in power supply design. This device features a fractional unit load of 1/8, enabling connection of up to 256 transceivers on the bus, making it suitable for high node count applications such as automated utility meter reading and industrial control networks. The ISL81483IP supports data rates of up to 250 kbps and includes slew rate limiting to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and minimize signal reflections. It also incorporates fail-safe receiver inputs that ensure a logic high output when the inputs are floating. The driver outputs are short-circuit protected and feature thermal shutdown to prevent damage from excessive power dissipation. The device is available in an 8-lead PDIP package and is compliant with RoHS standards.
