The PR5201-CB/TM is an incremental sensor IC designed for optical encoders, featuring a reticle that allows for customization of photodiode configurations to accommodate various resolutions and track radii. This IC supports applications such as incremental rotary encoders and linear scales, and is available in chip-on-board and QFN package formats. It operates over a wide temperature range of -40¬8C to 125¬8C, making it suitable for harsh environments. Key features include a sharp Z channel pulse, A/B channel resolution ranging from 100 to over 10,000, ungated and gated Z channel outputs for synchronization, and a rotation direction indicator. The device also provides output with 4-fold pulse density triggered by A or B phase changes, along with LED current control and an alarm for insufficient light intensity due to aging LEDs. For higher flexibility at lower production volumes, PR5201 uses a reticle to adapt the photodiodes of the IC to customized resolutions and radii for A/B and Z channel. PR5201 includes a LED current control.
With two signals indicating the sense of rotation and a phase change on A and B, PR5201 provides an alternative method to count the angle of rotation of the encoder. These two signals are particularly suitable for further digital processing.
