The Pickering Electronics Series 87-1-B-24/1 is a high sensitivity reed relay designed for general-purpose applications. It features a Form B switch configuration, which energizes to break, with a power rating of 10 watts at a maximum switching voltage of 200V. The relay can handle a maximum switch current of 0.5 A and a maximum carry current of 1.2 A. This relay operates with a nominal coil voltage of 24V and has a coil resistance of 6000 Oc. It is encapsulated in a plastic package with internal mu-metal magnetic screening to prevent stray magnetic interactions. The relay is suitable for PCB mounting with a pin configuration on a 0.1 inch grid. The operating temperature range is from -20 to +85 ¬8C, with the possibility of extending the upper limit to +125 ¬8C by adjusting the coil drive voltage. The relay is designed for long life, with a typical life expectancy of 1 x 10^7 operations under maximum load conditions.
These ranges of reed relays are essentially the same as the dry Series 80 and 85 and the mercury wetted Series 88 and 89 but with coil resistances between 2 and 3 times higher. This feature is particularly useful when using large numbers of relays, to reduce overall current requirements and heating effects, or when the available coil drive power is restricted, for example, in battery operated equipment.
Many special resistances are available, and relays can be designed to customers specific requirements.
These Pickering reed relays fit straight onto P.C. boards with pins on 0.1 inch grid. They are completely protected, being encapsulated with plastic covers. All relays are fitted with internal magnetic screens to avoid stray magnetic interaction between adjacent relays.
The Series 86 and 87 are electrically identical ranges but offer alternative pin configurations. These are shown overleaf.
