Pickering Electronics Series 86-87 87-1-A-24/8

Description
These ranges of reed relays are essentially the same as the dry Series 80 and 85 and the mercury wetted Series 88 and 89 but with coil resistances between 2 and 3 times higher. This feature is particularly useful when using large numbers of relays, to reduce overall current requirements and heating effects, or when the available coil drive power is restricted, for example, in battery operated equipment. Many special resistances are available, and relays can be designed to customers specific requirements. These Pickering reed relays fit straight onto P.C. boards with pins on 0.1 inch grid. They are completely protected, being encapsulated with plastic covers. All relays are fitted with internal magnetic screens to avoid stray magnetic interaction between adjacent relays. The Series 86 and 87 are electrically identical ranges but offer alternative pin configurations. These are shown overleaf.

Datasheet Summary
Powered by GS/AI

The Series 87 reed relay is a plastic-encapsulated, PCB-mount component with a 0.1 inch pin grid and internal mu-metal magnetic screening. It has a 1 Form A (energize to make) contact configuration, a 24 V nominal coil voltage, and an initial coil resistance of 6000 Ω. Switch ratings are 10 W at 200 V for dry switches and 50 W at 500 V for mercury wetted switches, with a maximum contact current of 1.2 A or 3 A respectively. The relay operates from -20 to +85 °C, with an optional extended range to +125 °C requiring increased coil drive voltage. It is rated for up to 10^8 operations under low-load conditions. The mercury wetted version must be mounted vertically with the arrow on the package pointing upward.
