Photonis Defense has been manufacturing Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) since their invention in the early 1940s. The company began making Miniature Traveling Wave Tubes in 1972 and developed the first micro TWT in the early 1980s.
Description
Photonis was the first Vacuum Electron Device company to apply fast warm-up technology to Miniature Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) in a production environment. Our miniature TWTs are helix-type and feature periodic permanent magnets or PPMs for power-free focusing. These miniature TWTs are conduction cooled and are capable of supporting applications from approximately 2 to 18 GHz. Ideal for portable and mobile applications where SWaP is considered, Photonis’ miniature TWTs provide high power amplification across specific frequency ranges. These TWTs are typically used for electronic countermeasures, radar applications, airborne military platforms, rack mount amplifiers, communications, and SatCom.
Photonis Defense manufactures helix type Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) which provide superior wide-band performance.
Description
Our conventional traveling wave tubes are of metal-ceramic construction for severe environmental conditions and utilize rare earth periodic permanent magnets for power-free focusing. This combination creates a rugged, light weight device suitable for any military airborne or ground-based platform. Photonis defense offers many qualified products which are capable of continuous RF operation. Many of our conventional traveling wave tubes can also be operated in pulse mode using focus electrodes or shadow grid modulation. The majority of our tubes can be supplied with military grade High Voltage Power Supplies to operate the TWT from various military power sources. Photonis defense offers an extensive selection of fully developed designs but will also work with you to design a TWT to meet your specific requirements.
