The SFH 7770 series, from Osram Opto Semiconductors, are a two-in-one digital solution, these compact surface mount devices are designed for the simultaneous detection of ambient light and the proximity of reflecting objects, and through the use of 2 or 3 IR LEDs instead of one, it is even possible to detect gestures. Applications include: mobile phones, PDAs, notebooks, cameras and other consumer products. Small SMT CHIPLED package. I²C bus interface. The Proximity Sensor (PS) has a detection range of up to 100mm (SFH 7770) or 300mm (SFH 7770 E6) and outputs to drive up to three IR emitters.
