Our Glan-Laser Calcite Polarizers are designed for demanding applications requiring extreme polarization purity and high resistance to laser damage. Glan-laser polarizers are air-spaced, select-grade calcite prism pairs with the prism interface angles optimized for minimum insertion loss, appropriate for use in Q-switched laser cavities. Superior performance for high-power multi-wavelength sources Extinction ratio >100,000:1 Wide acceptance angle Air-spaced for high laser damage resistance Low wavefront distortion Escape ports for rejected light eliminate unsafe laser power absorption Features Glan-Laser Polarizer Construction Our Glan-Laser polarizers are fabricated using two matching select-grade calcite prisms with their hypotenuses placed back to back to form a rectangular optic. The assembled prism pair is mounted in a black anodized aluminum housing marked to indicate the polarization axis of the transmitted beam. Unlike traditional Glan-Thompson polarizers, the prisms are air spaced rather than cemented together, as optical cement would be susceptible to damage when exposed to high intensity laser beams. Glan-Laser polarizers are designed to be used with well collimated beams. In order to avoid multiple reflections that may occur in Glan-Thompson prisms, the hypotenuse must less angled relative to the incident beam, this greatly reduces the usable acceptance angle. Escape Ports Because these prisms are designed to handle highly intense beams, two escape ports provide an exit for the rejected polarization component, avoiding dangerous absorption of laser power by the polarizer housing. This enables the user to employ high power beam dumps, or even use the rejected polarization for in some other capacity. The high power acceptance of the Glan Laser Calcite polarizers allows them to be used in Q-switched laser cavities and other multiple pass applications. Antireflection Coatings To maximize transmission, these polarizers are offered with a choice of three broadband antireflection coatings or a special V-coating for 1064 nm.
