Vapour Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI), Aluminum Barrier with Desiccants, and Desiccants Storage and transport of non-treated metals can lead to corrosion. Corrosion is the result of oxidation or aggressive elements in the air. Traditionally, materials have been protected against corrosion by means of oil, grease or paint, which can be time and labor intensive and not environmentally friendly. VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) technology has been designed to protect untreated metal against corrosion/oxidation. VCI creates an invisible molecular protection layer on the metal. The chemicals found in the corrosion inhibitor evaporate from the different products (PE film, PUR foam, paper, tablets etc) to saturate the closed environment. Once the environment around the metal is saturated, a thin molecular protection layer is formed on the metal, inhibiting corrosion. Moisture or impurities in the direct air around the metal can no longer influence metal to corrode.
