ARMATEX™ SBN 13-602 ROBOTEX is a silicone-coated aromatic polyamide fabric designed for protective covers, shields, and blankets in high-temperature environments. The finished product has a nominal weight of 13 oz/yd² (441 g/m²) and a thickness of 0.026 inches (0.66 mm). It exhibits a tensile strength of 100 lbf/in (875 N/5 cm) in the warp and 50 lbf/in (438 N/5 cm) in the weft, with elongation of 41% (warp) and 33% (weft). The base fabric is a plain weave aromatic polyamide with a temperature rating of 500°F (260°C), and the silicone coating is rated to 450°F (232°C). The fabric is black, 60 inches (1.524 meters) wide with a ±3% tolerance, and maintains flexibility under thermal stress.
Robotics are widely used in industrial environments with harsh operating conditions, such as steel mills, aluminum smelters, foundries, refineries, and petrochemical plants. However, without proper protection from the hazards of these conditions, tens of thousands of dollars that have been invested in robotic equipment can be lost in an instant. To remain effective, robotics must weather extreme conditions without corroding or degrading, and be resistant to dust, chemicals, moisture, and temperature extremes. Robot clothing and robot protective covers have been used to prevent component failure, allow robots to operate in a larger range of conditions, and extend the operational life of the robots. However many of the fabrics traditionally used have a high level of flexural failure, and low resistance to heat and abrasion.
Mid-Mountain has developed ARMATEX® SBN 13-602 ROBOTEX, a high performance fabric developed to protect robots from chemicals, sparks, molten splash, and pollutants, thus reducing the downtime required for maintenance and failure, and increasing the life of the robot.
