The VSC9191 is a 100 Gbps Time Slot Interchange (TSI) switch featuring a 40 x 40 configuration with a non-blocking 1920 x 1920 STS-1 switch matrix. It supports multirate OC-48/OC-12 data on all inputs and outputs, operating at 2.488 Gbps or 622 Mbps for TDM signals, and 2.125 Gbps or 2.488 Gbps for transparent routing. The device includes a serial TSI-to-framer interface and offers hitless reconfiguration of TSI mapping, automatic protection switching at the STS-1 level, and integrated clock synthesis with multiple reference frequencies. The VSC9191 is designed for use in smaller SONET/SDH systems as a central switch unit or as a building block for larger systems when combined with additional Vitesse TSIs. It features a 66 MHz 16-bit microprocessor interface, one-step connection programming, and flexible split-frame domain support. The device is packaged in a 33 mm, 613-pin FCBGA format, with typical power dissipation under 6 W and a maximum of 8 W, making it suitable for thermal design considerations. Enhanced quality monitoring and fault isolation capabilities are also included, providing reliability and rapid response for network applications.
