Chondroitin sulfate is an acidic mucopolysaccharide extracted from animal cartilage, mainly a mixture of chondroitin sulfate A, C and various sulfated cartilage. Chondroitin sulfate is widely found in animal cartilage, throat bone, and nasal bone, as well as in bone tendon, ligament, skin, cornea and other tissues. In cartilage, chondroitin sulfate binds to proteins to form proteoglycans and binds to collagen.

Chondroitin sulfate is white powder, odorless, tasteless, strong water absorption, soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, and ether. The aqueous solution of chondroitin sulfate is unstable in case of higher temperature or acid, mainly deacetylated or degraded into monosaccharide or polysaccharide with smaller molecular weight.
Chondroitin Sulfate is used to treat neuralgia, migraine, arthralgia, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, hyperlipidemia, and also as an additive in food health products.
