Leviton's Decora Manual-On Occupancy Sensor Switch complies with California Title 24 by requiring the user to manually turn the lights ON but will automatically turn the lights OFF when a space is unoccupied. It ensures that lights are not left ON unnecessarily for hours at a time. It uses "passive infrared technology" in order to detect human presence in a room, and respond to the infrared heat people naturally emit to monitor a specific area. When this "heat" is sensed, the lights will stay ON in the room, and then turn the lights OFF, when the space is vacated or are unoccupied.
