Larson Electronics LLC HID Rechargeable Light - 50 Watt HID - 4500 lumens - RL-12 RL-12

Description
The Magnalight RL-12 50 watt High Intensity Discharge (HID) handheld light is waterproof to 100 meters and runs for 2 hours on a single charge. A machined aluminum housing with rubber coated handle and HID bulb helps to produce an extrememly durable and powerful flashlight capable of producing a 4,500 lumen light beam reaching up to 5,500 feet in length. The RL-12 HID handheld flashlight features a machined aluminum housing, deep threads and watertight seals, a rubber coated soft grip handle for secure handling, and a unique magnetic touch switch that provides quick and easy light operation. Illumination is produced by a 50 watt HID bulb and 3 inch diameter lens and reflector assembly producing 4,500 lumens and a 6,000 Kelvin color temperature light beam reaching up to 5,500 feet in length. This high power handheld light also features a rear mounted LED light. The rear mounted magnetic switch turns one way to active the HID light and the other way to activate the rear mounted LED light. The HID light will run for 120 minutes. Once the battery fails, the LED light will run for another 240 minutes after the battery capacity is too low to run the HID light. The RL-12 HID dive light kit includes a carrying case, colored filters (diffuser, amber, red and blue) and a single AC wall charger. Charge time for this unit is 4.5 hours with 2 hours of HID operation and 4 hours of LED operation on a single charge. A consistent amount of current is fed to the bulb. The filament glows and light and heat are produced. The filament glows because it is a poor conductor of electricity. Eventually the filament breaks due to vibration or diminished capacity. HID flashlights have a globe of gas that contains bounded by electrodes. A spark jumps across the electrodes igniting the gas. Initially, the amount of current required to ignite the gas is higher. Once the gas is lit, much less current is required to keep the gas burning. A device called a ballast controls the amount of current sent to the bulb. HID flashlights use about 50% less energy than incandescent bulbs, which means longer battery life than halogen incandescent bulbs. More importantly, HID lights have no filament to break. Thus, the HID bulb life is around 2500 hours, compared to several hundred hours of the filament based incandescent bulb. The HID bulb is more efficient, so it produces much more light with less energy over a long period of time. The trade off, however, is that the ballast that sends current to the bulb is an expensive addition, increasing the cost of the flashlight. The bulb itself is also significantly more expensive than halogen bulbs
