Georgia-Pacific Corporation Composite Resins

Description
Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are used to replace typical structural materials of steel, metal, aluminum and wood. GP Chemicals offers a complete line of products that includes GP® and RESI-LAM® resins for this market. In FRP applications with fire safety concerns or high-temperature requirements, phenolic resin systems have advantages over polyesters, epoxies, and vinyl esters. Cured phenolic resins from GP Chemicals are formulated to be inherently fire-resistant, demonstrate low smoke generation and high-temperature resistance. Phenolic FRP resins are used in a wide range of applications including ballistics, mine ventilation, offshore water pipe systems, aerospace, rail and mass transit. Many of these products can be customized to meet your specific end-use and processing requirements. Pultrusion We offer phenolic resins that can process on traditional polyester pultrusion equipment. The resins are styrene-free and are thermally cured. Market applications include grating for offshore platforms and mass transit parts. Sheet and Bulk Molding Compounds (SMC/BMC) GP Chemicals offers a phenolic resin system for SMC and BMC that demonstrates and resistance to hydrocarbon and chlorinated solvents. The viscosity, processing and cure properties of our phenolic system often avoid the need for any special processing or equipment adjustments. Hand Lay-Up and Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) Several phenolic resins and acid catalysts are available for the hand lay-up/RTM process. The phenolic resin systems have passed United States, British, and International Maritime Organization Standard Fire Tests. Honeycomb and Prepreg We offer phenolic resins for Nomex® and Kevlar® honeycomb, glass and carbon fiber prepregs for aerospace applications. The product line includes solventborne and waterborne resins that meet Military Specification MIL-R-9299C and MIL-DTL-64154B requirements. Filament Winding GP Chemicals has developed several latent catalysts formulated to give a pot life equal to those of a polyester mix while maintaining the cure speed. Typical cure temperatures of these resins are 65°C to 95°C. After curing, filament-wound pipes demonstrate strength, dimensional stability, and a glass transition temperature (Tg) from 120°C to 220°C. Higher Tg is possible.
