Schott KG1 filters are used in lighting systems to remove the near IR thermal energy from a light source and transmit the visible. As the heat is absorbed in the filter care must be taken that the filter does not overheat and crack. To eliminate cracking of KG1 filters from excessive thermal energy KG1 filters are thermally toughened. Other KG glasses available in custom options are KG2, Schott KG3, Schott KG4 and Schott KG5 and chosen for their peak wavelength conditions.
