Indexable cutting tools are a cost-effective and time-saving alternative to their solid tool counterparts. Since the cutting tip is a small insert, a lesser portion of cutting material is needed rather than making a solid tool of the same material. This allows the shank or tool holder to be made of a less expensive but tougher material.
