The IR21571SPBF is a fully integrated ballast control IC designed to drive various types of rapid start fluorescent lamp ballasts. It operates at a voltage rating of 600V and features programmable preheat time, ignition ramp characteristics, and running mode frequency, providing flexibility for ballast design. The IC includes comprehensive protection mechanisms against failure-to-strike, filament failures, low-line conditions, and thermal overload, along with an automatic restart function for lamp exchange. This device utilizes a variable frequency oscillator with externally programmable deadtime and maintains a precise 50% duty cycle through a T-flip-flop. It is available in both 16-pin DIP and 16-pin narrow body SOIC packages. The IR21571 is noted for its micropower startup capability, with a supply current of 150µA, and includes thermal overload protection and ESD protection on all leads. It is important to note that this part is not recommended for new designs, with a suggestion to use the IRS21571D instead.
