Overview Alloy 20 is a highly alloyed iron-base nickel-chromium-moly bdenum stainless steel developed primarily for use in the sulfuric acid related processes. Besides sulfuric acid related processes, some typical corrosion resistant applications for the alloy include chemical, pharmaceutical, food, plastics, synthetic fibers, pickling and FGD systems plus many others. Although normally considered a stainless steel, it has been classified as a nickel base.

Overview FERRALIUM 255 is finding many cost effective applications in the chemical, marine, metallurgical, municipal sanitation, plastics, oil and gas, petrochemical, pollution control, wet phosphoric acid, paper making and metalworking industries. Called "super" because it is more alloyed than ordinary stainless steels and has superior corrosion resistance, FERRALIUM 255 is being used in areas where conventional stainless' are inadequate or, at best marginal. One good example s in the paper industry which was hit with an epidemic of corrosion problems when environmental laws forced recycling of process liquids In closed systems, chemicals such as chlorides can build up to highly corrosive concentrations over time. Paper makers have found that ordinary stainless equipment, which had previously given good service, was no longer adequate for many applications. FERRALIUM 255 is a duplex alloy with a high strength to weight ratio with superior abrasion and cavitation resistance. Resistance to chloride SCC, as well as crevice corrosion and pitting. Good ductility with a high fatigue strength in marine applications. Twice the yield strength of Alloy 20, and stronger than Duplex 2205. An excellent 40°C critical pitting temperature (ASTM G48-Method A), twice that of Alloy 2205.

Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with significant resistance to reducing environments, such as hydrogen chloride gas and sulfuric, acetic and phosphoric acids. Hastelloy B2 provides resistance to pure sulfuric acid and a number of non-oxidizing acids. The alloy should not be used in oxidizing media or where oxidizing contaminants are available in reducing media. Premature failure may occur if alloy B2 is used where iron or copper is present in a system containing hydrochloric acid. Industry users like the resistance to a wide range of organic acids and the resistance to chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking. Hastelloy B2 resists the formation of grain boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. The heat-affected weld zones have reduced precipitation of carbides and other phases to ensure uniform corrosion resistance. Alloy B2 also has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

HASTELLOY Alloy C-22 is a nickel-chromium-moly bdenum alloy with enhanced resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld-heat affected zone making it suitable for use in the as-welded condition. C-22 has outstanding resistance to both reducing and oxidizing media and because of its resistibility can be used where "upset" conditions are likely to occur. It is proven to possess excellent weldability and high corrosion resistance as consumable filler wires and electrodes. The alloy has proven results as a filler wire in many applications. As filler wire use when other corrosion resistant wires have failed. C-22 can easily be cold-worked because of its ductility and cold-forming is the preferred method of forming. More energy is required because the alloy is generally stiffer than austenitic stainless steels. 0.28" thick sheet in the heat-treated at 2050°F, rapid quenched condition, has an average olsen cup depth of 0.49".

Heat Resistant (UNS N06002) HASTELLOY X is a wrought nickel base alloy with excellent high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. All of the product forms are excellent in terms of forming and welding. Although HASTELLOY X is primarily noted for heat and oxidation resistance it also has good resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and has good resistance to carburization, excellent resistance to reducing or carburizing atmospheres. Alloy X is one of the most widely used nickel base superalloys for gas turbine engine components. AMS 5754 has no yield or tensile strength requirements, but it does require a hardness maximum and stress rupture minimums. Strong and Oxidation Resistant to 2200 Deg. F (1200 Deg. Wear Resistant (Co-Cr-W) Cobalt 6B is a cobalt based chromium, tungsten alloy for wear environments where seizing, galling and abrasion are present. 6B is resistant to seizing and galling and with its low coefficient of friction, allows sliding contact with other metals without damage by metal pick up in many cases. Seizing and galling can be minimized in applications without lubrication or where lubrication is impractical. Metal seizing is similar to one metal piece building heat against another and they become "welded" together. Galling is when these "weld" areas break off and form an abrasive debris which creates additional abrasion problems. Alloy 6B has outstanding resistance to most types of wear. Its wear resistance is inherent and not the result of cold working, heat treating or any other method. This inherent property reduces the amount of heat treating and post machining. 6B has outstanding resistance to cavitation erosion. Steam turbine erosion shields from 6B have protected the blades of turbines for years of continuous service. 6B has good impact and thermal shock resistance resists heat and oxidation, retains high hardness even at red heat (then cooled, recovers full original hardness) and has resistance to a variety of corrosive media. 6B is useful where both wear and corrosion resistance are needed.

Wear Resistant (Co-Cr-W) Chemistry of AMS 5894. This material surpasses 6K with better ductility, with the same good hardness. HPA COBALT alloy 6B H is the same composition of Cobalt 6B, except the material is hot rolled and then age hardened. The direct age-hardening after hot rolling provides the maximum hardness and wear resistance. The advantages this creates are increased wear life, retained edge characteristics, and increased hardness. These properties are in addition to the galling and seizing resistance of the regular Cobalt 6B. Cobalt 6B H is known in the industry as a metal that retains its cutting edge. INCOLOY® alloy 27-7MO (UNS S31277) is an advanced 7% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel offering corrosion resistance in most environments superior to 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steels. In many environments alloy 27-7MO offers resistance approaching that of much more highly alloyed materials such as INCONEL alloys 625, 22, and C-276. Alloy 27-7MO products typically contain 27% nickel, 22% chromium, 7.2% molybdenum, and 0.34% nitrogen. Its limiting chemical composition is presented in Table 1. The alloy's content of nickel and nitrogen produce a stable austenitic structure. By virtue of its content of molybdenum, chromium, and nitrogen, alloy 27-7MO offers excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The nickel, nitrogen, and molybdenum provide resistance to reducing media while a high content of chromium offers resistance to oxidizing media. Alloy 27-7MO performs well in mixed acid environments, especially those containing oxidizing and reducing acids. The alloy's contents of nickel and nitrogen result in resistance to stress corrosion cracking and attack by caustic media. Alloy 27-7MO offers excellent resistance to corrosion in seawater and brine. It also resists stress corrosion cracking in all concentrations of sodium chloride up to saturation at the boiling point. It is resistant to the aggressive media encountered in air pollution control systems such as flue gas desulfurization equipment for high-sulfur coal-fired electric power utilities. Applications for INCOLOY alloy 27-7MO are found in the pollution control, power, marine, chemical processing, pulp and paper and oil and gas industries. The alloy offers a unique combination of corrosion resistance, high strength and ease of fabrication at an economical price. Alloy 27-7MO is available in standard product forms including plate, sheet, rod, bar, wire rod, pipe, tube, and forging stock.

UNS N08810 / UNS N08811 Incoloy 8Incoloy 800 H is an iron-nickel-chromium alloy having the same basic composition as Incoloy 800, with significantly higher creep rupture strength. The higher strength results from close control of carbon, aluminum and titanium contents in conjunction with a high temp anneal. The 800H modification was to control carbon (0.05 to 0.10%) and grain size to (>ASTM 5) to optimize stress rupture properties. Incoloy 800 H has further modifications to the combined titanium and aluminum levels (0.85 to 1.2%) to ensure optimum high temperature properties. The alloy is dual certified and combines the properties of both forms. The chemical balance allows the alloy to exhibit excellent resistance to carburization, oxidation and nitriding atmospheres. 800HT will not become embrittled even after long periods of usage in the 1200-1600 deg F range where many stainless steels become brittle. Excellent cold forming characteristics typically associated with the nickel-chromium alloys are exhibited with 800HT. When cold formed extensively the grain size produces a visibly undulated surface called "orange peel". 800HT can be welded by the common techniques used on stainless steels. Typical applications for the alloy include ethylene pyrolysis, hydrocarbon cracking, cracking furnaces for vinyl chloride, diphenol and acetic acid. The alloy is also used for valves, fittings and other components exposed to corrosive attack from 1100 to 1800 deg F. Round bar ranging from 3/4" to 6" diameter, and light gauge sheet and plate. Incoloy 800 H material can be supplied in random lengths, cut to order or machined to customer requirements. Machining includes drilling, threading, milling, CNC shapes, turning, tapping, flanges and others.

Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy with good oxidation resistance at higher temperatures, with good resistance in carburizing and chloride containing environments. Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy designed for use from cryogenic to elevated temperatures in the range of 2000 deg F(1093 deg C). The high nickel content of the alloy enables it to retain considerable resistance under reducing conditions and makes it resistant to corrosion by a number of organic and inorganic compounds. The nickel content gives it excellent resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and also provides excellent resistance to alkaline solutions. Its chromium content gives the alloy resistance to sulfur compounds and various oxidizing environments. The chromium content of the alloy makes it superior to commercially pure nickel under oxidizing conditions. In strong oxidizing solutions like hot, concentrated nitric acid, 600 has poor resistance. Alloy 600 is relatively un-attacked by the majority of neutral and alkaline salt solutions and is used in some caustic environments. The alloy resists steam and mixtures of steam, air and carbon dioxide. Alloy 600 is non-magnetic, has excellent mechanical properties and a combination of high strength and good workability and is readily weldable. Inconel 600 exhibits cold forming characteristics normally associated with chromium-nickel stainless steels. Typical corrosion applications include titanium dioxide production (chloride route), perchlorethylene syntheses, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and magnesium chloride. Alloy 600 is used in chemical and food processing, heat treating, phenol condensers, soap manufacture, vegetable and fatty acid vessels and many more.

Inconel 601 nickel-chromium-iron alloy is a general-purpose engineering material for applications that require resistance to heat and corrosion. The outstanding characteristic of Inconel 601 is its resistance to high-temperature oxidation. The alloy also has good resistance to aqueous corrosion, has high mechanical strength, and is readily formed, machined, and welded. The limiting chemical composition of Inconel 601 is listed in Table 1. The composition is a face-centered-cubic solid solution with a high degree of metallurgical stability. The alloy’s nickel base, in conjunction with a substantial chromium content, provides resistance to many corrosive media and high-temperature environments. Oxidation resistance is further enhanced by the aluminum content. Characteristics The most important property of Inconel 601 is resistance to oxidation at very high temperatures up to 1250C. Even under severe conditions such as, cyclical heating and cooling. This is possible due to Inconel 601 having a tightly adherent oxide layer which is resistant against spalling. Resistance to carburization is good, also resistant to carbon nitriding conditions. Due to high chromium and some aluminum content, good resistance in oxidizing sulfur bearing atmospheres at elevated temperatures is demonstrated.

Nitronic® 60 / HPA N60 Bar
Nitronic 60 is truly an all purpose metal. This fully austenitic alloy was originally designed as a temperature alloy, and subsequently has good high temperature properties for temperatures around 1800ºF. The oxidation resistance of Nitronic 60 is similar to Type 309 S.S., and far superior to Type 304S.S. This grade is best known for its wear and galling resistance. The additions of Silicon and Manganese have given this alloy a matrix to inhibit wear, galling, and fretting even in the annealed condition. Higher strengths are attainable through cold working the material and is still fully austenitic after severe cold-working. This working does not enhance the anti-galling properties as is normal for carbon steels and some stainless steels. The benefit to the cold or hot work put into the material is added strength and hardness, and the wear resistance does not decrease noticeably. Chromium and Nickel additions give it comparable corrosion to 304 and 316 stainless steels, while having approximately twice the yield strength. The high mechanical strength in annealed parts permits use of reduced cross sections for weight, and cost reductions through the use of thinner stock. Several data sheets are available on the wear compatibility of this alloy with dissimilar couples, as well as self-mated coupled results. If your galling problem occurs at less than 1500ºF, then you should think about switching to this alloy. Nitronic 60 has a better cost advantage than any other alloy available. Other materials require an additional amount of heat treating to raise their hardness, where NITRONIC 60 is excellent in the annealed condition.
