Gilson Company, Inc. Sand Equivalent, Hand Operated Shaker, Spring Type SE-5

Description
• Widest selection of sand equivalent shakers and components available. • SE-2B assures precise repeatability and safe automatic operation. • SE-6 is repeatable and economical for lighter testing schedules. • SE-5 is the most economical for occasional use. The Sand Equivalent Test indicates the relative portion of undesirable clay-like fines and dusts that occur in granular soils and fine aggregates passing the No.4 sieve. The Sand Equivalent Shaker is also used in the Durability Index Test which measures the relative resistance of an aggregate to producing such undesirable clay-like fines when subjected to degradation. In either application, the sample to be tested is placed in a clear plastic cylinder with sand equivalent solution, consisting of calcium chloride, formaldehyde, and glycerine. After shaking the cylinder with a Sand Equivalent Shaker, it is allowed to stand for a 20 minute sedimentation period. Readings are taken on the cylinder scale for the level of the top of the clay suspension, and for the sand level. The "Sand Equivalent" is the sand reading divided by the clay reading x 100. SE-2B Motor Driven Shaker is recommended for labs performing sand equivalent tests on a regular basis. Positive DC drive assures precise speed and stroke and eliminates errors inherent in hand shaking or with less expensive belt-driven or AC motor driven machines. A timer selection switch gives options of precise fixed times of 45 seconds and 10 minutes as used in sand equivalent and durability index tests. The 8in (203mm) throw at 175cpm is smooth, quiet, and efficient. The 1/8hp DC gear motor with sealed gear box and other mechanical parts are housed in a sturdy metal case. The hinged safety cover with 3-1/2in (89mm) high front and top viewing windows must be closed to operate the shaker. Green "start" and red emergency "stop" buttons are provided. Test cylinder is held securely by base pin and spring-loaded holder on stoppered end. Overall Dimensions: 35x14x20in (889x356x508mm), WxDxH; allow 10in (254mm) additional height for opening of safety cover. Est. Ship Wt.: 200lb (91kg). SE-6 Hand Crank Shaker has 8in (203mm) throw. Geared manual crank gives 3cpm of clear plastic cylinder per revolution of crank. Operator cranks at one turn per second until the digital counter reaches 131 cycles. Cylinder mounts to fixed-travel guide rod by base pin and threaded clamp holder on stoppered end. Base has holes for mounting. Dimensions: 30x14x10in (762x356x254mm), LxWxH. Est. Ship Wt.: 68lb (31kg). SE-5 Hand Operated Spring Shaker is more operator-dependent than mechanical models, but conforms to ASTM, AASHTO and California 217 test methods. Unit has cylinder mounting bracket suspended by two steel straps. Operator manually oscillates cylinder via steel straps to a preset mark on the case at proper rate. Digital counter records stroke counts. Components are mounted in a vinyl-covered, plywood case with reinforced corners, removable front and a top handle. Dimensions: 24x6x25in (610x152x635mm), WxDxH. Est. Ship Wt.: 30lb (14kg). The SEA-100 Sand Equivalent Test Sets is packed in a latching, vinyl-covered wooden case with carrying handle. Economy SEA-99 Set includes the same items, without carrying case. Plastic measuring cylinders are 17in high, 1-1/4in (31.8mm) inside dia., and are graduated from 015in (0381mm) by 0.1in graduations from bottom of cylinder. Measuring tin is approximately 2-1/4in (57mm) dia. with capacity of 85ml. Weighted foot assembly weighs 1,000g.
