Rediron melts quickly at 240°-260°F (116°-127°C), pours at about 275°F (135°C), and hardens in minutes with minimal shrinkage. Compressive strength exceeds 8,000psi at two hours for 2in cube test of ASTM C 617, and Rediron may be used beyond 15,000psi with added aging. Tensile strength by ASTM C 307 is 600psi minimum, and other properties meet requirements of ASTM C 287. The distinctive rust-red color is your assurance of Gilson quality.

Vitrobond Ingot compound is higher-priced, but often preferred for ease of storage and handling. Dark grey compound is mineral filled, sulfur based and melts and pours smoothly, for consistent results. Compressive strength exceeds 6,500psi at two hours and increases with time. Ingots come in 50lb containers, each with ten 5lb ingots. Pieces break easily for melting to pouring temperature of 280°-300°F (138°-140°C). Tensile strength and modulus of rupture are typically 600 and 1,300psi respectively by ASTM C 287 methods. Price varies by order quantity.
