This protein enables 43S ribosomal complexes to discern between cognate and near-cognate initiation codons, sensing the nucleotide content of initiation codons. Recombinant human EIF1B protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E. coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
