Bevel gears are conically shaped gears produced as straight, spiral, and zerol bevel gears. The gears are commonly mounted on shafts that are perpendicular to each other. They are used to transfer mechanical energy between intersecting shafts. The shaft angle can be any angle, but bevel gears are typically used to transfer power at 90°, and the teeth are milled to interlock. As a bevel gear manufacturer, SDP/SI produces bevel gears using the Gleason® / Coniflex® (cutting) manufacturing methods.
