Helical gears are comparable to spur gears, but due to the higher contact ratio, they are quieter, vibrate less, and experience less friction. Helical gear pairs have the same helix angle but opposite threads (left-hand and right-hand). Helical gears can be used in place of spur gears; they can be used in drives with non-parallel axes or positioned in between parallel axes. Helical gears are suitable for applications involving faster speeds and larger loads because, unlike spur gears, their teeth are twisted along the helical path and progressively interlock into one another.
Helical gears can also be found in industries related to movable earth, power, and oil drilling. Because of their efficacy with heavy loads, they are found in elevators, conveyors, compressors, and blowers. The most popular helical gear application is in the automobile industry, specifically in transmissions.
Our inch and metric helical gears are offered in 48-pitch modules 1, 2, and 3.
They are available in stainless steel, aluminum, and ground-hardened steel with black oxide finishes.
