KKWG2-R1 is a ground steel worm shaft with a module of 2, 1 start, right-hand thread, and W6 axial shape. It has a total length of 200 mm, shaft length (L) of 35 mm, neck length (L) of 25 mm, face width of 40 mm, neck length (R) of 25 mm, shaft length (R) of 75 mm, pitch diameter of 22 mm, outside diameter of 26 mm, neck diameter of 17 mm, shaft diameter of 25.2 mm, and weighs 0.64 kg. The worm is made from SCM440 with tooth surface induction hardening to 50-60 HRC, and meets KHK W 001 grade 2 precision standards. The part produces axial thrust forces and is designed for use with matching worm wheels such as KAGF2-20R1. No secondary operations are permitted on the tooth area due to induction hardening.

A worm gear pair, or worm gear set, consists of two gears: the worm, which resembles a spiral screw, and the worm gear (aka, worm wheel).
For the pair to mesh, the worm and worm gear must have the same pressure angles, modules, and lead directions (left- or right-hand).
A worm revolves on a shaft that’s perpendicular to the worm gear and the shaft angle is typically 90°. Because the teeth gradually mesh as the worm rotates, there is low noise and low vibration.
