Made from SCM440 with induction-hardened tooth surfaces at 50-60 HRC, conforming to JIS grade N6 (JIS B1702-1:1998) and JIS grade 2 (JIS B1702:1976). Transverse pressure angle is 20°, helix angle is 21°30', with theoretical backlash of 0.14-0.24 mm and allowable torque of 18.4 N·m (30.5 kgf·m) for surface durability.

Helical gears are comparable to spur gears, but due to the higher contact ratio, they are quieter, vibrate less, and experience less friction. Helical gear pairs have the same helix angle but opposite threads (left-hand and right-hand).
