A 24-pitch molded worm gear made of mineral-filled nylon, black, designed to mesh with right-hand worms at a 90-degree angle. The gear has a 20, 30, or 50 tooth variant with a pitch diameter ranging from 0.833 to 2.083 inches and an outside diameter from 0.917 to 2.167 inches. Bore size is 0.187 inches for the 20-tooth variant and 0.250 inches for the 30- and 50-tooth variants. Face width is 0.187 inches for the 20-tooth and 0.250 inches for the others. Hub diameter and projection dimensions vary by tooth count. The gear is compatible with standard steel or brass worms and has a 14.5° pressure angle.
A worm gear pair, or worm gear set, consists of two gears: the worm, which resembles a spiral screw, and the worm gear (aka, worm wheel).
For the pair to mesh, the worm and worm gear must have the same pressure angles, modules, and lead directions (left- or right-hand).
A worm revolves on a shaft that’s perpendicular to the worm gear and the shaft angle is typically 90°. Because the teeth gradually mesh as the worm rotates, there is low noise and low vibration.
