The OPU Series pick-up is another motor speed pick-up available from Dart. It can be used in place of the PU-E pick-up, when limited space prevents physical contact with the motor shaft. The OPU is designed for use in applications which are shielded from ambient light, especially sunlight. The OPU is an infrared LED transciever which produces a high (+5 Volt max) signal from the reflective (light) target, and a low (0 Volt) signal from a non-reflective (dark) target surface. The result is a square wave with the frequency (number of pulses) dependent on the number of alternating light and dark surfaces on the target. The OPU can monitor rotating shafts, belts or virtually any moving surface.
