Preface This is the third edition of CAN/CSA-E60335-2-7, Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-7: Particular requirements for washing machines, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-7:2008+A1:20 11 (edition 7:2008 consolidated with Amendment 1:2011). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2001 as CAN/CSA-E60335-2-7 (adopted IEC 60335-2-7:2000). For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as "CAN/CSA-E60335-2-7" throughout. This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1-11, Safety of Household and Similar Appliances - Part 1: General Requirements (adopted IEC 60335-1:2001+A1:2004 +A2:2006, with Canadian deviations). Scope This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This International Standard deals with the safety of electric washing machines for household and similar use, that are intended for washing clothes and textiles, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. This Standard also deals with the safety of electric washing machines for household and similar use employing an electrolyte instead of detergent. Additional requirements for these appliances are given in Annex CC. NOTE 101 Guidance is given in Annex DD for requirements that may be used to ensure an acceptable level of protection against electrical and thermal hazards for washing machines fitted with a power driven wringer. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. NOTE 102 Examples of such appliances are washing machines for communal use in blocks of flats or in launderettes. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by washing machines that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account persons (including children) whose * physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or
