Scope 1.1 This Code specifies requirements for the installation, alteration, and maintenance of solid-fuel-burning appliances and equipment installed indoors or outdoors. 1.2 In this Code solid-fuel-burning appliances include a) furnaces; b) boilers; c) stoves; d) ranges; e) space heaters; f) factory-built fireplaces; and g) water heaters. 1.3 In this Code, the term "solid fuel" includes a) cordwood; b) wood chips; c) sawdust; d) peat logs; e) wood and other biomass pellets; f) kernel corn; and g) coal 1.4 This Code does not apply to a) incinerators; b) site-built fireplaces; c) process equipment; or d) portable appliances. 1.5 In this Code, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Code.
