Cardas Neutral Reference video is designed as a perfectly neutral reference cable. It sounds the same at any length, whether one or 100 feet, between any digital or video components. Neutral Reference is perfectly symmetrical and non-directional. Neutral Reference is a precision video cable, is highly detailed and makes an excellent cable for home theater applications, especially in longer lengths. In addition, Neutral Reference video is also an excellent digital transmission cable for both AES/EBU and SPDIF applications. It is currently being used for that purpose by Bernie Grundman, one of the largest mastering houses in Los Angeles. Neutral Reference is designed as a direct transfer circuit rather than a transmission line. Rather than design for a full wave characteristic impedance which would be more appropriate for a long cable and unstable in short lengths where only a variable percentage of the wavelength is included, we have optimized the cable for constant transfer impedance. This cable will extend originating impedance within +/- .5 ohm from 50 to 150 ohms to 30 ft. of cable.
